Everybody these days is busy trying to be somebody in this oh so material world. But there are times when you ask yourself whatever I am doing, is it worth it in the long run? And I am sure most of us don’t have a decent answer to it. We are so busy in building a future for us that our present is getting lost and when we realize the importance of our present we tend to have lost most of it.

So if you are one of those people who believe that it is important to build a future but it is only possible if I live my present heartily today than it is time you take a leap and make a fresh start.

Here are a few tips that would help you change for better and get more out of life.

  1. Travel

Try to fit travel somewhere in your schedule. You might not have time or resources to go for a round the world trip but who cares. There might be some place that you always wanted to visit but never got the opportunity. Now is the time to act on it. Travel broadens your mind as you meet new people, see new sides to religion, culture, food, the way people live their life. And when you come back you bring new experiences and a different sense of being with you for a lifetime.

  1. Enjoy your work

If you don’t enjoy your work than try to make it enjoyable and if it’s simply not possible then change your job. It might sound a little over the top but it is what you need to do. Your workplace is where you spend a greater part of your day and if you are not happy or satisfied then you are wasting your energy. Stop cribbing about it invest your energy and time in searching for a better opportunity. If you are happy with what you are doing then only it’s possible to get more out of life.

  1. Maintain your house

If maintaining your house is a big issue for you then it might be time you sell it and move in to a smaller space that would lessen your monetary worries. Downsizing and moving in to a smaller property will make it easier to manage and will solve a major issue and might also free some funds that may come in handy.

  1. Sleep less/more

Some people remain sleep deprived while some waste a major portion of their day sleeping. If you sleep less you feel lethargic and tired the whole day and if you tend to sleep more than you lose out precious hours where you could have fit in so much work.

Seven to eight hours sleep is a must for all and getting this right amount of sleep will leave you alert and you would get more out of your waking hours than you could have thought.

  1. Eat right

‘You are what you eat’ just changing your diet can have an immediate positive effect on your life. Less of oily and sugary food and more of fruits, vegetables, proteins and other nutrients will give you more energy and keep you in shape. If you are fond of fried, junk or sweet food, not to worry as everything in moderation is fine. Also make sure to divide your meals in to five or six times as opposed to the regular three (breakfast, lunch and dinner). Make sure you drink at least two liters of water in a day as it helps to flush out the toxins.

  1. Change your routine

Having a routine is good but sometimes breaking it or changing it can prove to be better. Break the monotony of your life by adding or subtracting something from your everyday routine. Be spontaneous and be more open towards things and people.

  1. Volunteer

It is not every day that we go out of our way to help someone but when we do that it is we ourselves who feel satisfied and happy. Happiness spreads by sharing it and you can do it by doing some volunteer work. It could be as simple as spending time with elder people or providing means for education for children or getting associated with a NGO.

  1. Get active

If your life involves commuting from office to home and then just get glued to the television then it is time you involve yourself in some activity. Introduce exercise in your daily routine for as little as 20 to 30 minutes. It can be walking, cycling, yoga, aerobics, swimming, gym or playing a sport. Start with simple changes for example take stairs instead of elevator or go walking to places nearby.

These big and small changes can affect you in a huge way and help you get more out of life. It will teach you the meaning of living happier today.
